The British Royal Air Force has sent fourth-generation Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to the Black Sea. The aircraft provide protection for civilian vessels in the region.

Here's What We Know

The deployment of fighter jets to the Black Sea was reported by the British publication The Telegraph. Eurofighter Typhoon have been carrying out patrols for several weeks to deter the Russians from striking ships that transport Ukrainian grain.

The UK Ministry of Defence stepped up its activities in the region after the Russians began striking grain infrastructure in southern Ukraine in mid-summer. Russian authorities decided to break a deal that secured grain exports from Ukraine.

The Russian Defence Ministry threatened to strike any ships travelling to Ukraine. However, in late July, the Israeli ship Ams1 was the first to enter the Ukrainian branch of the Danube, breaking the Russian blockade. It was accompanied by a P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine ship and an RQ-4B Global Hawk strategic drone.
