The USA has updated its estimate of the duration of training Ukrainian pilots on the fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets. The tentative timeline was announced by the director of the Air Force National Guard, Lieutenant General Michael Loh.

Here's What We Know

The training of Ukrainian pilots will take place at various locations. The Air National Guard base Morris, Arizona, is among them. In the near future, the first pilots of the Ukrainian Air Force will arrive here.

In early 2023, the US evaluated two Ukrainian pilots. Based on the information received, Michael Lo stated that the minimum training period will be three months. That is how long it will take for experienced pilots who speak English.

At the same time, less experienced pilots will be trained for nine months. This corresponds to the standard course for pilots with a basic level of training.

After training, pilots will not immediately go to Ukraine to the battlefield. For some time they will fly on the territory of Europe. Logistical support should also be provided and the training of technical personnel should be finalised.

The US authorised countries to supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets a few weeks ago. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the country had agreed to receive 50-60 aircraft. So far, only Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands have officially confirmed the delivery of fighter jets. In addition, Sweden will consider the possibility of transferring JAS 39 Gripen to Ukraine.
