Apple should make Air Tag for airplanes - Pentagon lost a fifth-generation F-35B Lightning II fighter jet that flew away while on autopilot
A very strange situation has occurred in South Carolina involving a fifth-generation F-35B Lightning II Marine Corps fighter jet. The pilot ejected and the service still can't find the aircraft.
Here's What We Know
The incident involved an F-35B fighter jet from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. It was flying alongside another F-35B, but the second aircraft successfully landed. There is no information yet on what caused the pilot to eject.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said. That the search for the plane is underway in the area of Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion. According to the US Department of Defence, the fighter jet was put into autopilot mode before ejecting.
Similar situations have happened before. For example, in 1988, a Soviet MiG-23 fighter jet was able to fly from Poland to Belgium after the pilot ejected. In theory, the F-35B could cover several hundred kilometres in autopilot mode.
Since there has been no information about the crash so far, it is likely that the fighter went down in a sparsely populated area. Given the lack of fuel, a large fire seems unlikely. It is possible that the F-35B Lightning II went down in the water. This would make it difficult to find the aircraft.
