Su-30, J-10, J-11, J-16, Y-20, KJ-500 - Taiwan recorded 103 Chinese military aircraft around the island
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence has detected a record number of Chinese warplanes around the island. Nearly a third of them entered the air defence identification zone.
Here's What We Know
Different types of aircraft flew around the island nation. The defence establishment said such actions can only lead to further escalation of tensions between Taiwan and the People's Republic of China, destabilising security in the region.
Taiwan has detected 103 Chinese military aircraft near the island. 32 People's Liberation Army fighter jets entered the southwestern air defence identification zone. At the same time, two long-range radar detection aircraft and two aerial refuellers violated the southeastern air defence identification zone.
The defence establishment said 40 Chinese aircraft out of 103 aircraft were identified:
- 12 J-10;
- 10 J-16 and Su-30 each;
- 4 J-11;
- 2 Y-20 and KJ-500 each.
The KJ-500 and Y-20 aerial refuellers flew through the air defence identification zone before continuing on to the western Pacific. In addition, four J-11 fighter jets crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait before returning to the Chinese mainland, according to Taiwan's Ministry of Defence.
