The US has sent a B-52 Stratofortress nuclear bomber to the Republic of Korea. For the strategic aircraft, this is the first visit to the country in three decades.

Here's What We Know

The US Air Force is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the US-Republic of Korea alliance. The US military service will showcase its might at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition.

During the event, a B-52H Stratofortress strategic bomber will land in the Republic of Korea. Other aircraft and helicopters will also be showcased at the Seoul military base from 17 to 22 October 2023:

  • F-22 Raptor;
  • A-10 Thunderbolt II;
  • F-16 Fighting Falcon;
  • C-17 Globemaster III;
  • C-5 Galaxy;
  • KC-135 Stratotanker;
  • U-2 Dragon Lady;
  • CH-47F Chinook;
  • AH-64 Apache;
  • F-35B Lighting II;
  • E/A-18 Growler;
  • E-3 Sentry.

Although the B-52H Stratofortress has not been to the Republic of Korea for 30 years, it regularly performs missions near the peninsula. For example, on 30 June 2023, several nuclear bombers flew a joint flight with F-16s, F-15Es, KF-16s, and F-35As, and two weeks later, the B-52H flew escorted by F-15Ks and F-16s.
