The United States, the Republic of Korea and Japan conducted the first-ever trilateral air exercise. The event took place on 22 October 2023.

Here's What We Know

US, Japanese and Korean aircraft took part in the military exercise. The Japan Air Self-Defence Force sent a quartet of F-2 fighters, while the Republic of Korea sent a pair of F-15K Eagle.

From the US, the B-52H Stratofortress nuclear bomber, which recently landed in the Republic of Korea for the first time in decades, participated. It flew alongside three US F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets during the exercise.

The aircraft flew in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. That is where the air defence identification zones of Japan and the Republic of Korea intersect. The exercise marks an important milestone in the trilateral relationship between the allies.
