Germany has not yet decided whether to continue purchasing Eurofighter Typhoon Trance 5 fighter jets
Germany does not know whether it will continue to buy Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets. The purchase plan was adopted by the previous government in the spring of 2020.
Here's What We Know
The purchase of new Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft is part of a wider effort to modernise the German Air Force. At this time, the government has not made a decision regarding the purchase of the Trance 5 fighters.
The statement from a German official comes weeks after Eurofighter and Airbus tried to persuade the government to buy 35 Eurofighter Typhoon jets. They are to replace the Tornado fighters.
And last year, Germany signed a contract to buy the F-35 Lightning II. The cost of 35 American fifth-generation fighter jets, engines and weapons was about $9 billion. The F-35s will be able to carry American thermonuclear bombs instead of the aging Tornado jets.
