South Korea is about to purchase an additional batch of fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets.

This was reported by the Defence Acquisition Programmes Administration (DAPA). The contract for the purchase of additional aircraft was signed in December. We are talking about 25 fighters worth $5.06 billion. By the way, South Korea now has 40 F-35 Lightning II aircraft in service. The Korean Army received them between 2019 and 2022.

The F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation multirole fighter aircraft. It is developed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin. The aircraft has stealth technology and is equipped with two air-to-air missiles, guided bombs and a 25mm cannon. The F-35 Lightning II can fly up to 2,200 kilometres and reach speeds of up to 1,931 km/h.
