$5.62bn contract: Czech Republic signs contract to buy 24 F-35A fifth-generation fighter jets

In autumn 2023, the Czech Republic approved the Ministry of Defence's plan to purchase fifth-generation F-35A fighter jets. Now it has become known that the Czech Republic has officially signed a contract for the purchase of the aircraft.

The information was shared by the Novinky edition, citing a statement from the Ministry of Defence. The amount of the contract is 5.62 billion dollars. We are talking about 24 aircraft F-35A, which will replace the Gripen. The Czech Republic is currently leasing them from Sweden. The contract will end in 2027.

The F-35 Lightning II is the most modern serial fighter jet with a service life of 30 to 40 years. It is manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin. The fighter has stealth technology and is equipped with two air-to-air missiles, guided bombs and a 25mm cannon. The F-35 Lightning II can fly up to 2,200 kilometres and reach speeds of up to 1,931 km/h.
