The victims of Faruk Fatih Ozer were almost 400,000 customers of the cryptocurrency exchange. The perpetrator was put on the international wanted list after the abrupt shutdown of Thodex in spring 2021. The founder of the project said that the exchange had to shut down due to a large number of cyber-attacks. He promised to return the money to all customers, but did not keep his word.

Turkish police arrested dozens of people involved in the fraud. However, the founder of the exchange managed to escape to Albania. During the investigation it was found that before the closure of Thodex, the company sent $125 million in Bitcoin to the U.S. exchange Kraken.

The total loss of investors amounted to approximately $2 billion. Farouk Fatih Ozer was found using biometric data. Now he faces up to 40,654 years in prison.
