The U.S. has long ago restricted the supply of chips to China. Now the authorities do so in private letters to individual companies. However, the government intends to expand the restrictions.

Here's What We Know

About a week ago, it became known that the U.S. Department of Commerce banned NVIDIA and AMD from supplying China with advanced computing accelerators whose performance is at the A100 level. The authorities suggest that China could use such chips to improve its military infrastructure.

Now the Ministry of Commerce is working on official rules to replace the private recommendations. They will apply to all companies that operate in U.S. jurisdictions or use U.S. technology. In theory, manufacturers will be able to export products to China, but they will have to obtain the appropriate permits.
