The U.S. Department of Commerce has allowed two South Korean companies to supply equipment for chip production in China, despite the sanctions.

Here's What We Know

It became known yesterday that one of the two companies is SK Hynix. The exemption will be in effect for a year. In addition, The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung Electronics will also be able to supply equipment without the need for an export license. Note that the leading manufacturer of memory chips has facilities in two Chinese cities, Suzhou and Xi'an.

The exception for Samsung will also be valid for 12 months. Meanwhile, the South Korean technology giant has so far declined to comment on the information about the opportunity to re-equip facilities in China without having to fully comply with export control requirements.

But SK Hynix has already made an official statement. Company representatives reported on successful negotiations with the U.S. Department of Commerce, as a result of which the manufacturer was able to avoid the immediate impact of sanctions.
