Tesla begins logging for plant expansion in Berlin
Tesla plans to increase production of electric cars by half within a few years. For this purpose, it will not only build new plants, but also expand its existing facilities. In particular, in Germany.
Here's What We Know
The German media reports that tree-cutting for the expansion of the local plant of the American company has begun in Berlin. The German publication RBB24 reports that the manufacturer has secured permission to cut down trees from the local government.
The current Tesla plant is located on the outskirts of Berlin and occupies an area of 90 hectares. By cutting down trees in the pine forest, which is located near the factory, the company Elon Musk gets additional 70 hectares of land.
In parallel, Tesla is engaged in forest restoration activities in Germany to compensate for its activities. In particular, the American manufacturer has already been able to restore approximately 300 hectares of forest.
Now Tesla produces only 2,000 electric cars a week in Germany. By the end of the first quarter of next year, the company plans to increase production volumes by 150%, i.e. up to 5,000 units. Tesla's goal is to produce 500,000 electric cars annually, that is, just under 10,000 units per week. In addition, the number of jobs will increase from 7,000 to 12,000 after the expansion.
