Elon Musk was the second person to accumulate a fortune of more than $200 billion. He reached that mark in January 2021, a few months after Jeff Bezos. His fortune peaked at $340 billion on Nov. 4, 2021, and he remained the richest man in the world until French tycoon Bernard Arnault overtook him that month. Now it looks like Musk is claiming to be the biggest loser of the year.

Here's What We Know

According to Bloomberg, referring to his index of billionaires, Elon Musk was the only man in history to lose $200 billion of his fortune. It fell sharply to $137 billion after Tesla stock plunged in recent weeks, including an 11 percent drop on Tuesday. Overall, Tesla stock is down 65 percent in 2022.

Musk sold them so much this year to cover his purchase of Twitter that they are no longer his biggest asset, according to the Bloomberg Wealth Index.
