Samsung tops smartphone market in early 2023, overtaking Apple and Xiaomi
The smartphone market shrank at the beginning of this year, with Samsung once again leading the way. This is reported by the analytical agency Canalys.
Here's What We Know
Smartphone shipments are down 12% year-on-year, but this was expected given the macroeconomic situation. Global sales have fallen for five consecutive quarters, according to Canalys.
Samsung led the way in the first quarter of 2023. In the reporting period the South Korean manufacturer's share was 22%, which is 2% less than a year ago. However, it is worth noting that compared to the end of 2022, Samsung was able to increase sales and surpass Apple.
The Cupertino manufacturer is in second place with a share of 18%, which has grown by 3% year on year. China's Xiaomi rounds out the top three. Its share amounted to 11% against 13% in the base period.
OPPO and vivo are in the top five with 10% and 8% respectively. The combined share of all other manufacturers in the first quarter of 2023 was 28%. Compared to the same period in 2022, the indicator did not change.
