AMD takes record CPU market share, but Intel still sells twice as many CPUs
AMD continues to steal customers from Intel. Slowly but surely the red company is catching up with its blue rival.
Here's What We Know
AMD never controlled more than 20% of the CPU market until 2020. At the end of the first quarter of 2023, its share was 34.6%. This is a new record. The share of the Californian processor giant increased by 3.3% over the previous quarter and by 6.9% over the first quarter of last year.
As there are only two players on the processor market, Intel's share is not difficult to calculate. In the reporting period, the blue company held 65.4%. Consequently, the share decreased by 3.3% and 6.9% compared to the last and first quarters of 2022, respectively.
In the server segment, Intel feels much more confident, although the year-on-year share declined by 6.3%. In the reporting period, Intel supplied 82% of the server CPUs, while AMD supplied 18%.
