Sony is not withdrawing from the smartphone market and will continue to make them for at least a few more years

Sony has been releasing few new smartphones lately, and even those are not in great demand among users. Sales have been falling, which raises the logical question of whether the company is going to withdraw from the smartphone market altogether, following LG and HTC.

Here's What We Know

Interestingly enough, the answer to this question was given not by Sony, but by Qualcomm. The chip maker has announced in a new press release that it has expanded its partnership with Sony for the Snapdragon platforms that will power the Japanese company's future smartphones. This is a "multi-year" deal and covers premium, high-end and mid-range devices.

It follows that Sony will continue to make smartphones for at least the next few years. But the company looks set to continue its existing ranges as they are, that is, without budget devices.
