LG wants to add advertising and paid subscriptions to smart home devices and appliances
LG has unveiled its new business strategy, which aims to increase revenue - from $51 billion to nearly $79 billion by 2030. And there are some interesting things about this strategy.
Here's What We Know
So, LG plans to explore advertising and subscriptions for its TVs and home appliances. That way, once sold, a TV or refrigerator will continue to generate revenue for the manufacturer.
But it looks like paid subscriptions won't work the way they do on streaming platforms, meaning you won't have to pay to not see adverts. Subscription for smart home appliances means getting useful updates and new features.
LG's first such products should be TVs, which will lead to changes to the webOS operating system. The company also wants webOS to appear on LG's other non-TV products in the next five years.
