At the end of the summer, Toyota halted the work of almost all car assembly plants in Japan. The reason was the lack of free space on the servers.
Here's What We Know
Toyota was conducting scheduled maintenance of the servers. At some point, the procedure was interrupted due to overflowing discs with databases. This caused the entire production order system to shut down.
On the 27th of August 2023, operations at 12 out of 14 Toyota's plants in Japan were paralysed. The system was unable to switch to the backup servers because they used the same configuration as the main servers.
The problem was fixed two days later. On the 29th of August 2023, specialists from the Japanese company started a new server with more storage capacity. The plants restored operations, but car production fell by 13,000 units per day during the pause.
