Smartphone market takes first steps towards recovery - third quarter shipments down only 1 per cent
The smart phone market continues to recover slowly but still. According to analyst agency Canalys, the third quarter of 2023 was about the same as the third quarter of 2022.

Nearly 300 million smartphones were shipped in the reporting period, only 1 per cent less than in the same period last year. The top three remained unchanged, but Transsion entered the top five.
Samsung takes the top spot with a 20% share, down 2% from the base period. Apple reduced its share from 18% to 17%. Xiaomi continued to control 14% of the global smartphone market, the same as a year earlier.
Falling out of the top five was vivo. Its place was taken by Transsion, which owns the itel, Infinix and Tecno brands. Its share increased from 6 per cent to 9 per cent. In fourth place remains OPPO, which also controls 9% of the market.
All other companies combined to deliver 32% of smartphones during the third quarter of 2023. Huawei, despite the success of the Mate 60 series, failed to return to the top five manufacturers, which together have a combined share of 68%.
