Realme smartphone sales surpass 200 million some 5 years after the company was founded

It has been just over five years since realme was founded. It was initially set up to sell online low-cost smartphones in India, but the devices have become very popular in other countries.

Since the first realme smartphone hit the market, total sales have surpassed the 200 million units mark. This did not happen today or yesterday, but in the second quarter of this year. The company itself was officially founded on 4 May 2018.

At the moment, there are only 14 companies that have managed to sell more than 200 million smartphones. Although realme has had about five years to reach this milestone, the pace is not record-breaking. Apple, Huawei, Samsung and vivo are the four companies that have realised 200 million smartphones faster.

According to Counterpoint Research, there were more than 700 smartphone brands in 2017. By September this year, their number had almost tripled to 250 units. Realme is among the top 10 manufacturers, being part of BBK Corporation along with vivo, iQOO, OPPO and OnePlus.
