In search of new sales channels, merchants from China and other countries are intensively experimenting with TikTok, but a possible ban on this platform could have serious consequences for them.

Here's What We Know

The US Congress has approved a bill that could force ByteDance to abandon TikTok or have the platform banned in the US. This decision has caused serious unrest among sellers who depend on this platform to sell their goods, especially those who were looking for alternatives to Amazon.

TikTok Shop, which was launched in September 2023, has attracted 200,000 sellers, but the exact number and their sales volumes remain unknown. The decision also affects ByteDance's plans to grow its US e-commerce business tenfold to $17.5 billion this year.

However, TikTok is not the only option for sellers looking for alternatives. The Temu platform is also growing in popularity, and Amazon is supporting the trend of turning its attention to other markets.

TikTok remains an attractive option due to its active user base, especially among young consumers.
