It seems that with the release of the new Apple Watch Series 8 line of smartwatches, Apple has decided to say goodbye to the old model, the 2017 Apple Watch Series 3.

Details

For example, Apple's official stores in various countries are now selling off their remaining smartwatch inventory, and some versions are no longer available. For example, three of the four Series 3 configurations listed on Apple's website are currently unavailable in the UK and Australia. In the U.S., one version is currently unavailable.

This is no surprise: all indications are that Apple is discontinuing production of the Watch Series 3. The Apple Watch Series 3, introduced in 2017, is severely outdated, including in terms of software. For example, the upcoming watchOS 9 software update is not compatible with the Apple Watch Series 3 - the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models will receive it.

Recall that the Apple Watch Series 8, a higher-end Series 8 model that could be called the Apple Watch Pro, and the second-generation Apple Watch SE are set to be unveiled on September 7.

The latter will likely replace the Series 3 as the most affordable smartwatch in Apple's lineup.
