Rumour: Apple won't limit third-party wireless charging power in iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro
Sources are reporting new information about Apple's upcoming flagship iPhone 15. This time, the leak reveals the smartphones' wireless charging capacity.
Here's What We Know
According to ChargerLAB, a reliable charging source, the future Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will support the new Qi2 wireless charging standard. It's based on Apple's MagSafe standard.
And that means Qi2 chargers (even from third-party manufacturers) will likely be able to charge smartphones at full power - 15W, just like MagSafe.
In comparison, current models (iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14) charge at a maximum power of 15W only from MFM (Made for MagSafe) certified stations. If other chargers are connected to them, however, the charging speed will be limited to 7.5W.
According to the source, Apple's MagSafe module has a wholesale price of around $16, while the Qi2 module appears to cost less than a third of that. In other words, this will bring more affordable MagSafe-like chargers to the market.
