Don't expect so far: the new iPhone SE is unlikely to come out in 2024
Apple has released several successful models of its 'budget' (by the manufacturer's standards) iPhone SE smartphone: the first generation debuted in 2016, the second in 2020, and the third in 2022. The new model, on the other hand, seems to be in trouble.
Here's What We Know
The updated iPhone SE is definitely no longer worth waiting for this year. Neither will likely be next year. Barclays analysts, after "repeated conversations" with companies in Apple's supply chain, believe that Apple is unlikely to release a new iPhone SE in 2024.
This is rumoured to be somewhat due to the fact that Apple's own 5G modem won't be ready anytime soon. Apple has been planning its release since at least 2018 and has even acquired much of Intel's smartphone modem business in 2019. For now, however, the company has to use modems from its vendor, Qualcomm.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported back in April that Apple will not begin mass production of modems until 2025, while the iPhone 16 line and the smartphones released after it will continue to use Qualcomm modems.
