Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple has recently been working on an artificial intelligence project that could compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Here's What We Know

According to Mark, working on AI has become a priority for Apple over the past few months as the number of chatbot services and AI features in apps has increased.

Apple has already developed an Ajax platform for large language models like ChatGPT, Microsoft's Bing and Google's Bard. It even has its own internal chatbot, which developers among themselves call Apple GPT. But so far, the company doesn't have a finished product or any strategy to build one.

The chatbot that has been developed is used for product prototyping and can answer questions based on the data that Apple used to train it. Ajax is built on Google's Jax machine learning platform running on Google Cloud.

Apple reportedly even wanted to sign a contract with OpenAI to test its technology, but eventually changed its mind.

Nevertheless, Apple now has several teams working on artificial intelligence. The company is also concerned that it is lagging behind new AI-related technologies.
