Apple has pushed back the release of its own 5G modem to late 2025 or even early 2026

Apple has long been developing its own 5G modem in order to break its costly deal with Qualcomm. This modem was originally expected to be released in 2024, but now the timeline has had to be pushed back.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the company ran into development problems, which resulted in the modem's release having to be pushed back to late 2025 or even early 2026. Until then, Apple will use Qualcomm modems in its devices - both companies have signed a contract until 2026.

The development of the chip is said to be at an early stage and could be years behind the competition. According to the report, things are not going smoothly and developers have a lot of work to do to get the final result. According to the source, Apple's hardware technology team is "stretched" across multiple projects, leading to difficulties in fixing bugs.

Incidentally, only Qualcomm, Samsung, Huawei, MediaTek and Intel currently have proprietary 5G modems.
