Rumour: all models in the iPhone 16 lineup will get an updated touch-sensitive Action Button with power sensor
This year, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max smartphones introduced the Action Button for the first time. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, on the other hand, still use the classic volume rocker. According to a new leak, next year all 4 models of the iPhone 16 lineup will get the updated button.
Here's What We Know
The report emphasises that the new details are taken from pre-production information. According to these details, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature an action button. Moreover, according to the rumours, it will not be a mechanical key, but a touch-sensitive one, and it will supposedly be able to detect pressure changes thanks to the presence of a force sensor.
The article claims that the new action button will be a "function similarly to the Touch ID Home button on older iPhone models, or the Force Touch trackpad found on more recent MacBooks" button.
Perhaps the updated button will be able to perform more than one function.
Apple has also reportedly experimented with different sizes of the action button. In pre-production testing, some iPhone 16 models had an action button that is larger than the iPhone 15 Pro and more similar in size to the volume buttons.
In any case, Apple's plans could change, so we can't speak with certainty about the new features just yet.
