According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple was planning to introduce the 2nd generation AirTag tracker this year, but ended up changing its mind and decided to postpone the launch.

Details

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the AirTag 2 won't come out until 2025. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, Apple still has few competitors in this market, and the current AirTag works well and offers all the features users need.

Secondly, the company seems to have miscalculated demand and produced more devices than necessary. So now retail shop locations and warehouses for Apple devices are filled with stock of AirTags that need to be sold.

Mark Gurman also shared some predictions about what to expect from AirTag 2. First and foremost is an upgraded wireless chip that will match the components of the latest iPhone and Apple Watch. Apparently, we're talking about the second-generation ultra-wideband chip found in the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
