In a new Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared some new information about Apple's Vision Pro headset. As it turns out, the company's own employees are saying that the current model is flawed.

Details

Members of the team working on the Apple headset believe that there is still a lot of work to be done before the device can be considered improved enough for everyday life. More specifically, the developers predict that it may take the company four consecutive generations of the device to reach the "perfect shape".

What exactly they mean by "perfect shape" is unclear. But according to user feedback, the headset is too heavy and bulky for prolonged use. They also complain about poor battery life, not enough specialised apps and the prevalence of bugs in VisionOS.

If Apple addresses these issues, Mark Gurman believes the Vision Pro could eventually replace the iPad. In the meantime, "it’s going to take some hardware upgrades, a slew of software updates, and far better support from app developers and content makers to actually make the headset the iPad replacement that it’s capable of being", Gurman adds. "Until then, the Vision Pro is essentially a prototype — just one where you have to pay Apple for the privilege of testing it out".
