A full-width bar and even a pop-up menu on the side: How Apple experimented with Dynamic Island on the iPhone
In 2022, Apple introduced the iPhone 14 Pro smartphones with a Dynamic Island cutout instead of the trademark "monobrow". It can transform and expand to display system alerts and other useful information. As it turns out, before this Apple has long experimented with the shape, size and location of Dynamic Island. Based on the information received about the prototypes, the publication MacRumors showed how the current smartphones could look like.
Here's What We've Seen
Perhaps most interesting is a pop-up window on the side of the display that gave users quick access to the time, mobile signal and Wi-Fi power, display brightness, volume and battery level. This menu would appear and disappear as needed.
Another option was a notch hidden in the fully dimmed top of the screen. Incidentally, this would also help save battery life.
Apple originally made the dynamic island permanently stretched out at the top of the screen, and then decided it would be less obtrusive if it resized as needed. The company also considered displaying information such as volume level, duration of the current phone call, etc. in the cutout.
Now Dynamic Island is used in all models of the iPhone 15 lineup. At the same time, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus with the previous notch remain on sale.
