Samsung may raise the prices of its smartphones and other devices due to a sharp rise in the cost of memory chips.

What is known

The reason was the sharp rise in the price of memory chips, which are essential for the operation of modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. With the launch of GenAI assistants such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot, the demand for AI services has skyrocketed. These tools require enormous amounts of memory both at the server level and on user devices. As a result, memory chip prices have jumped by almost 50 per cent.

According to South Korean publication Hankyung, Samsung is already planning to raise the prices of its devices, particularly smartphones.

Samsung is not the only brand that is making such decisions. Xiaomi has already introduced the Redmi K90, the price of which is 7.5% higher than the previous model.

Recently, gg reported that Samsung is developing an Exynos 5G modem with an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) that will provide an instant connection to satellite internet without the need for a terrestrial terminal. Using artificial intelligence, the modem will be able to analyse the position of satellites and establish a connection faster.
