Cheaper but no music: YouTube launches new Premium Lite tariff
Video hosting YouTube is working on introducing a new paid subscription rate for those who are not interested in music but want to watch videos without adverts.
Here's What We Know
According to Bloomberg, the subscription will be called Premium Lite and will be cheaper than the standard YouTube Premium. It will allow you to watch videos and listen to podcasts without ads, but YouTube Music will not be included in this offer.
Most likely, the new tariff will first appear in the US, Australia, Germany and Thailand, and later will be offered in other regions. The cost of the tariff is not yet known.
Google commented on its plans thus:
As part of our commitment to give our users more choice and flexibility, we are testing a new YouTube Premium offering with most videos ad-free in several of our markets. We hope to expand this offering to more users in the future with the support of our partners.
As a reminder, the standard YouTube Premium plan costs $13.99 per month in most countries.
