At Sotheby's, a unique black diamond was sold, weighing 555.55 carats (112 g). The diamond is called Enigma. Its uniqueness lies in the presence of osbornite, a mineral from meteorites.

What we know

Scientists believe that black diamonds appeared on our planet about 3 billion years ago, i.e. even before the dinosaurs. Enigma's buyer is businessman Richard Hart. About this he informed personally, while the auction house Sotheby's did not disclose the name of the winner.

The Enigma is the largest cut diamond in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. Hart bought it for $4,292,322 at an auction, but the lot was paid for with cryptocurrency. Now the new owner wants to rename the diamond to HEX.com.
