Greek woman got a €6,648,444 fine for improper parking

A resident of Rhodes got into an unpleasant and curious situation. She received a fine of almost €6.7 million for improper parking.

What we know

The woman received an envelope with a receipt for the payment of a fine for parking in a wrong place. The amount was €6,648,444. Initially, she thought she was fined €6000, which is 10 times the average fine in Greece.

She went to the municipality, where she offered to pay in cash, as she did not have that much on her card. Officials were also shocked by the amount of the parking fine. After investigations it turned out that the sum on the receipt was indicated by mistake, probably due to software malfunction.
