Brazilian writer Mariana Vieira left her Kindle charging, and a few days later was unpleasantly surprised.

What we know

The tablet was left on charge for several days. When the woman tried to use it, she was unsuccessful. The device would not turn on, even though it was plugged in. Mariana pulled out the power cord and noticed white ants crawling out of the plug.

As it turned out, the little insects had taken over Kindle and turned the tablet into their nest. And all would have been relatively fine, except for one "but". The ants "figured out" how the device worked and started buying books on Amazon.

Mariana Vieira received an e-mail, notifying the writer of the purchase of "Robots and Empire" book by Isaak Asimov. The woman reported the error to support, but even before she received a response, she was notified of the purchase of a second book, The Ring of Gyges: An Ethical Fantasy by Eduardo Giannetti. As we can see, Brazilian ants are admirers of books on philosophy and futurism.

Mariana Vieira inquired about how to take out the insects at Twitter. As it turns out, it is quite common that Kindle is taken by ants. One user wrote that he got rid of the insects with an insecticide-soaked cloth in which he wrapped the tablet. The most effective way - putting  the device in a freezer. A Brazilian woman took this very advice and confirmed that it works.
