Swedish intelligence services accuse the Russians of stealing traffic cameras, which are then used in drones.

Here's What We Know

Thefts of Canon cameras, which are used to monitor traffic, have recently increased in Sweden. According to the State Security Service, at least 100 traffic cameras have gone missing in the country.

At the end of summer it became known that 11 cameras were stolen in the area between Haoskamp and Tierp. Three days later, it was reported that a total of about five dozen cameras had disappeared in the vicinity of Stockholm. The thefts continued with the advent of autumn. In September, in particular, several cameras were stolen on the E16 highway. The provinces of Dalarna and Jestrikland were the most affected.

According to the newspaper Aftonbladet, the stolen Canon cameras were found in the Orlan-10 reconnaissance drones used by Russia in its war against Ukraine. The cost of one video surveillance system is just over $20,000.
