Oculus founder Palmer Luckey, who sold his company to Facebook and has worked mostly on national defense technology since leaving, has created an interesting but creepy thing: a deadly virtual reality headset.

Details

Luckey says that his VR-headset kills the player if he dies in the game. And it's not a joke - it's quite serious and real: when the headset captures the Game Over splash screen, it activates an explosion of set charges. It's all Sword Art Online-style, where players are trapped in a giant VR combat simulator that kills them for real after they die in the game.

The developer says he's only halfway through it so far, and the interesting thing is that the half that's responsible for the explosion and Game Over is completely done, but the virtual reality part still needs work.

Nevertheless, Luckey has already unveiled his deadly headset. Of course, we can only take his word for it, since neither he nor anyone else has risked testing the headset in action. This device will not go on sale either - now the only copy is just a decoration of its creator's office.
