Barack Obama is still using the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch, which the manufacturer recalled because of the risk of burns

Former U.S. President Barack Obama is a loyal user of Fitbit products. But now he urgently needs to think about buying a new watch, and this is no joke.

CNN published a YouTube video of Obama's speech, and in it you can see the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch on the former president's wrist. The model was released back in 2017, and before that Obama used the Fitbit Surge.

The problem is that the manufacturer recalled all Fitbit Surge releases back in March 2022. The reason is the risk of burns from the gadget: there have been 100 reports of battery overheating and 78 reports of burns in the United States. Therefore, the company is recalling 1 million units sold in the U.S. and 700,000 units in the international market.

Obama's note: Owners will get a full refund of $299 and a 40% discount on new hardware.
