The US Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Howard unexpectedly ran aground on approach to Bali

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Howard (DDG 83) sustained ‘soft grounding’. The incident occurred as the ship was heading towards Bali.

USS Howard (DDG 83) is stationed in Japan. On 10 August he was making a planned visit to Bali, but near the island suddenly "softly" ran aground. This was reported by US Navy spokeswoman Megan Greene.

"Soft" grounding is a situation in which the ship hits the bottom with the hull, but continues to move without assistance. The incident occurred on the morning of 10 August. The crew of USS Howard (DDG 83) took immediate action to avoid problems.

As a result, the destroyer returned to normal operations. No one was injured as a result of the emergency incident. Now the US Navy is investigating the circumstances of the incident.

At the same time officer Kenji Igawa was removed from his post in connection with loss of confidence in the ability to command. Captain Edward Angelinas is taking his place temporarily. He will serve as commander until a permanent replacement is selected.
