The French Navy has sent the nuclear-powered submarine Suffren to the United Arab Emirates. The submarine travelled through the waters of the Pacific Ocean for the first time.

Here's What We Know

Suffren is based in the port of Toulon. The new mission was officially announced a few days ago, although deployment took place almost a month ago. In particular, there is a photo that captures the submarine during its passage through the Suez Canal. The image, which you can see below, was taken on 27 July 2023.

The French Navy submarine was accompanied by a Loire-class Seine offshore support vessel. Three years ago, it was also used during the deployment of the Rubis-class nuclear-powered submarine Emeraude in the Pacific Ocean.

Suffren is the first submarine of the class of the same name. It was launched in July 2019 and began service nearly three years later. The second Suffren class submarine is called Tourville. Naval Group launched her last month.
