Russians have developed a project of strategic nuclear submarines with intercontinental ballistic missiles
The Russian defence industry has been able to develop a new design of strategic nuclear submarines. This was announced by Andrei Baranov, Director General of the Rubin Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering.
Here's What We Know
The head of the enterprise did not disclose the details of the project. Nevertheless, it is clear that the new strategic submarines will be armed with intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear charges.
The new nuclear submarines were planned to replace the Project 955 Borey strategic submarines after 2037. Under this project, six submarines have already been commissioned into the Northern and Pacific fleets of the Russian Federation. They carry Bulava ballistic missiles with a maximum launch range of more than 9,000 kilometres.
Last year, Rubin presented a conceptual model of a next-generation strategic nuclear submarine called Arktur. It may appear in the Russian Navy only in the second half of the 21st century.
