The US Navy has added a new ship to its fleet. The destroyer USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) was commissioned over the weekend.
Here's What We Know
The ceremony took place in Tampa, Florida. At the same time, the new destroyer will be stationed in San Diego. It is the 75th ship of the Arleigh Burke class and the first destroyer in the Flight III configuration. Upgrades focus on AN/SPY-6(V)1 radar, power, and cooling efficiency.
USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) was laid down on 8 November 2019. It was christened on 26 March 2022. A few days ago, the ship left Huntington-Ingalls Shipbuilding's shipyard for Tampa. Along the way, the destroyer performed a test launch of an SM-2 missile.
The ship is 155.3 metres long and 20 metres wide. The propulsion system is represented by four General Electric L2500 gas turbines with an output of 100,000 horsepower. The maximum speed is 57 kilometres per hour.
USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) has two Mk 41 vertical launch systems with 32 and 64 cells. These allow the launch of anti-aircraft and cruise missiles, including Tomahawk. The destroyer also has torpedo tubes and a Phalanx CIWS cannon.
