The US has sent the Blue Rig-class landing ship USS Mount Whitney to Israel
The US Navy has sent another ship to the Mediterranean Sea. This was reported by the US Department of Defence.
Here's What We Know
Earlier, the Pentagon sent to Israel two aircraft carrier strike groups led by USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. The day before, the US Department of Defence announced the deployment of the Bue Rig-class landing ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) to the region.
LCC 20 is the second Blue Rig class ship and flagship of the US Navy's 6th Fleet. Its key functions are command, control and communications. The ship has a JTIDS system that can receive and transmit large amounts of secure information anywhere in the world. Various communication channels, including satellite communications, are used for this purpose.
USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) is equipped with two CIWS Phalanx artillery systems, which are designed to provide defence against anti-ship missiles and aviation threats. The ship is also equipped with a pair of Bushmaster 25mm cannons and a quartet of machine guns.
On board the USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) is a landing pad for the Sikorsky MH-60S Seahawk. The availability of the helicopter allows for reconnaissance, cargo delivery and rapid response operations.
