The Ukrainian Air Force destroyed the new Russian ship Askold with a SCALP EG missile before commissioning the ship
The Ukrainian Defence Forces hit the Russian warship Askold over the weekend. Two days later, photos of the ship and a video of the missile hit appeared.
Here's What We Know
Ukraine has officially confirmed the strike on the Zatoka shipyard in Crimea. French cruise missile SCALP EG was used for the attack. The Russians first wrote about the work of air defence, but later the Ministry of Defence confirmed the hit.
The small missile ship Askold, which was built as part of Project 22800 Karakurt, was hit. This is indicated by the presence of the Pantsir-M surface-to-air missile system. The ship was launched two years ago. Construction began in November 2015. "Askold" was expected to be commissioned in 2023, but the SCALP EG missilef SCALP EG made adjustments.
"Askold" was created as a carrier of cruise and anti-ship missiles for the Russian Federation's Black Sea Fleet. The Russians planned to arm the ship with a vertical-launch installation for launching Onyx and Kalibr missiles.
