US naval drone Devil Ray launched missiles for the first time during a mission in the Middle East
A Devil Ray naval drone has made its first ever missile launch. The US Navy drone is currently in the Middle East.
Here's What We Know
The missile launch took place as part of the Digital Talon exercise, which took place in the Middle East. Before that, the US Navy's underwater, surface and aerial drones reached a milestone when they helped monitor Iranian ships in the Gulf of Hormuz and surrounding waters.
The exercise near the Arabian Peninsula was monitored by Task Force 59. This is a US Navy unit that specialises in unmanned and artificial intelligence technologies.
The military service said that during the test, the naval drones worked in conjunction with manned ships to identify a conditional enemy. The Devil Ray then launched missiles that were able to destroy the targets.
The U.S. Navy considers the missile launch from Devil Ray to be a milestone for the maritime drone. However, it should be noted that the launch was signalled by an operator who was ashore.
