Intel demonstrated a chip equipped with its own memory. The processor belongs to the Meteor Lake generation.

Here's What We Know

Apple several years ago announced the M1 chip, which was replaced by the M2. Both processors have their own LDDR-type RAM. Along the same path decided to go and Intel, whose CPUs are no longer in Apple laptops.

"Blue" giant demonstrated the Meteor Lake generation processor, which uses Foveros packaging. The main feature of the chip is the presence of Samsung LPDDR5X-7500 RAM. The volume is 16GB.

The configuration of the CPU is not specified. However, the presence of 16GB of RAM has the potential to deliver a peak bandwidth of 120GB/s, which is much higher compared to DDR5-5200 and LPDDR5-6400.

The key benefits of RAM integration are improved performance and reduced size, which will allow laptops to be equipped with higher capacity batteries. It's not without its drawbacks, either. Memory corruption disables the entire platform with no repair option. It also removes the option to upgrade and requires a more complex cooling system.

Whether Intel will bring such processors to the market is still unknown.
