Does the gaming platform Roblox want to become a dating app?

Roblox wants to push its boundaries and create a space where adult players can meet and interact. At the closing of the Roblox Developers Conference 2023, CEO David Baszucki suggested that over the next five years, "thousands" of adults will be able to find each other and establish "real relationships" on the gaming platform.

This idea may seem strange and even wild to some, but given where Roblox is now, it may become a reality. For example, the company recently introduced the ability to play games only for users who have confirmed their age at 17 years and older. This means that people who spend time on these exclusive games can be sure that they are interacting with other adult players. And next year, Roblox plans to release an artificial intelligence-based tool that will allow you to create an avatar with your own image and text prompts to create a more realistic image of yourself.

"The difficult thing about doing this live with all of you: these are etched in stone. So we are fully committed. These can never change. We will be here over the next four years, and we will see you in 2028 for the review of this. I’m shooting for 60 to 70 percent."

Bazuki also drew attention to Roblox's past five-year forecasts from 2018. The company achieved 58% of its goals, including reaching the simultaneous online record of 1 million players, Roblox developers earning more than $50 million a year, and building a 100-person team dedicated to Roblox development. Among the achievements were the US president mentioning his Roblox avatar on camera and Tesla using Roblox developers for advertising.
