The failure of Anthem was not a disaster for Electronic Arts: the number of sold copies of the scandalous shooter from BioWare has been revealed
The release of the sci-fi shooter Anthem from BioWare and Electronic Arts studio took place in 2019 and became one of the major failures in the history of the gaming industry.
The developers promised exciting gameplay with a focus on co-op and an engaging story campaign. Electronic Arts accompanied the game with powerful advertising, which attracted a lot of attention to the game.
Here's What We Know
Anthem turned out to be a boring, monotonous and unfinished game, and its content absolutely did not correspond to the developers' statements.
EA never revealed Anthem's sales figures, but everyone was of the opinion that it was an absolute financial failure.
But, as it turned out, it's not all that bad: on his LinkedIn page ex-head of EA's social media development department Alexandre Scriabine pointed out that Anthem's initial sales reached 2 million copies, and the total managed to sell 5 million copies.
Of course, these figures are far below the expectations of BioWare and Electronic Arts and it is possible that with such sales it was not possible to recoup the development of the game, but if this data is true, then the failure of Anthem hardly hit the company hard and once again showed the importance of a proper marketing campaign.
