First details of the UK game sales chart: EA SPORTS FC 24 is sold worse than FIFA 23 on release, but outsold Hogwarts Legacy
Christopher Dring, author of GamesIndustry.biz, has shared the first details of the UK games sales chart. Full stats should be available by Tuesday, but in the meantime we know how EA SPORTS FC 24 performed.
Here's What We Know
Electronic Arts' new football simulator, which ended the era of FIFA games, showed good results, but in some places they are worse than FIFA 23. Physical sales of EA FC 24 in the UK decreased by 30% compared to FIFA 23. Although EA expected such a decline due to the rebranding, because when people saw a FIFA game, they immediately understood what it was. And now we have a new franchise.
But on the Nintendo Switch, the physical version of EA FC 24 sold better than FIFA 23 on release. This is the only platform where sales have increased compared to last year. Christopher explains this by the fact that it is now a new game, not a FIFA 18 remake. However, player ratings on Metacritic (only 3 points out of 10) suggest otherwise, as people there complain that there are no dramatic changes at all, even though it is a new franchise.
Overall, the physical release of EA Sports FC in the UK was the second biggest of the year. The game was even able to outsell Hogwarts Legacy, but it failed to overtake The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Flashback
Last week, Mortal Kombat 1 secured the first place in the UK weekly game sales chart, and Cyberpunk 2077 returned to the top 10.
